Intrado Announces New "Doomsday-Proof" HF Product

As a consultant, EMR is 100% vendor neutral.  But as tech geeks, we just have to bring our readers the latest and greatest innovations and new products in the industry.

HF 9-1-1 is the newest Intrado offering for catastrophic events, which would allow operations over HF frequencies from 3 MHz to 30 MHz when local and regional infrastructure is down,  according to Urgent Communications.

These frequencies were previously limited to maritime use, but have become available for public safety and critical infrastructure users under an FCC order from earlier this year.

"This is exactly what the U.S. has been needing for a long time," said Intrado co-founder and CTO Stephen Meer of the product, which will be a back up to other levels of communication.

Intrado holds that their product complements FirstNet's planned network, as well as other networks and disciplines.  HF technology's significant propagation characteristics made it ideal for the primary method of ship-to-shore communications on the high seas, and those characteristics will translate well into back-up operations since it requires very little infrastructure.

The company also said the HF device will be so simple that no additional special training will be necessary to operate it.  The product and subscriptions for use is expected to be available in 90-120 days.
